“How do I know when my baby will arrive?’ The question that all newborn photographers, medical professionals and parents wish they knew the answer to. It’s the question that is asked most often when booking a newborn photo session. The answer is, ‘when baby is ready’ and for that reason newborn photographers' diaries need to be fluid and flexible to accommodate babies and their own little schedules. At Bella & Duck Photography, limited sessions per month are set aside for newborns with other session types and editing (maternity, family, milestone and cake smash) arranged around them in the diary.
When you book your newborn session you are asked your due date and then requested to add Bella & Duck to your notification list of baby's arrival. As soon as you let us know that your beautiful little bundle of cuteness has safely arrived you will be offered a suitable session date within those first few weeks.
As soon as baby is here and we have confirmed a date we chat on the phone to discuss your tastes and priorities for the session. Family, parent and sibling poses are included as standard in all newborn sessions at Bella & Duck.
Sessions take place at the Bella & Duck studio in Troon on weekdays from 10-2. The purpose built studio is fully equipped, sterilised and heated ready for your baby while you can sit back and get some well-deserved relaxation time watching your baby being carefully posed and photographed.
Babies are photographed in the nude and complimented by beautiful fabrics and accessories aligned to your tastes. The session can be as posed or as natural as you would like, many clients have different tastes and we cater for everyone. Four hours are set aside for your session although it can usually be done in less. By allocating extra time the session can be entirely baby led. New babies like to feed, cuddle and go to the toilet often so by allowing lots of time they are not rushed.
A lot of parents are concerned about the mess that can come along with taking off their baby's clothes and nappy, that they don't like being undressed or prefer not being swaddled etc. Your photographer is fully trained in newborn handling, posing and safety. Parents are often surprised at how settled their baby remains in the studio environment. We have white noise playing, the temperature is just right for their comfort and safety and we fully expect the odd baby accident; everything is sterilised regardless, we would just rather it was on our fabrics or on us as opposed to on mummy or daddy but it can make a good story when they are older!
Within 48 hours of your session you can chose to have an optional social media preview of your baby and around 4 weeks after the session you are presented with a link to a private online gallery from which to select your image package. Depending on products it is usually 2-4 weeks until delivery of your final package although full resolution digital files are downloadable via your private link upon payment of your package.
